Over 3 a long time after the activities of the primary film, Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is serving as a U.S. Navy check pilot who has prevented advertising to retain flying. As Rear Admiral Chester "Hammer" Cain strategies to close down the hypersonic "Darkstar" scramjet application and redirect the finances to drone programs, Maverick flies the prototype to its pace objective, then pushes similarly into high-hypersonic pace, destroying it. They reunite and head toward the destroyed airbase, wherein they scouse borrow an F-14 Tomcat and head lower back to the provider. Maverick and Rooster shoot down intercepting Su-57s, however, a 3rd arrives as they run out of guns and countermeasures. Hangman arrives from standby to shoot down the Su-57, and the planes go back to cheers at the provider, wherein Maverick and Rooster reconcile.
Sometime after the assignment, Maverick and Rooster paintings collectively on a P-fifty one Mustang at a hangar close to the check facility wherein Maverick turned into formerly stationed. Penny arrives together along with her daughter Amelia, and Maverick takes her for a trip withinside the P-fifty one. Rooster walks to an image board and recognizes an image in their assignment's success, along with an image of his overdue father and a more youthful Maverick.
